Runners are the best people, always ready to help beginners, but sometimes they forget to consider what is appropriate for the new runner at that particular time in their running journey.
In this episode, I give beginners a heads up because this can be a serious problem for beginner runners looking for guidance from experienced runners. Long-time runners are extremely helpful to beginner runners, but the new runner needs to always stop and think about their own situation before being influenced to do anything differently.
Peer pressure, especially from more experienced runners, can be a dangerous thing, even for a 50-year old.
A beginner runner can easily fall into the, “Come on we’re all doing it!” trap and end up registering for a marathon or half marathon far too soon, resulting in extreme stress, at the very least, and too often, injury that is followed, shortly, by a total loss of enthusiasm for the sport of running.
