MFR 97: Runner Safety, Staying Safe When Running

Running gives us so much. It makes our lives better in a hundred ways, but we can’t forget running safety. We owe it this: to be careful, to exercise wisdom, to do what we know in our hearts, we should do, even if it’s inconvenient and even if sometimes restricts our running.

I’m talking about doing what’s safest, whether it means running in a different location or waiting until a friend is available or running at a different time of day, it’s absolutely critical that we do what’s smart even when it’s hard. Remember the “Running is 90 percent mental” adage? Well, this is part of the 90 percent, for sure.

It doesn’t matter if we run fast or run far unless we also run smart.

In this episode, I have almost 30 tips for runner safety. No doubt you’ve heard of some, but it’s likely you haven’t heard of some of these tips for safe running, and even one of them could save your life, and keep you safe.

Then, at the end, I have a bonus, an amazing personal story. It’s not about safety – or even running – but it is related to the topic, and I’m pretty sure you’ll find it entertaining.

Running gives us so much. It makes our lives better in a hundred ways, but we can't forget running safety. We owe it this: to be careful, to exercise wisdom, to do what we know in our hearts, we should do, even if it's inconvenient and even if sometimes restricts our running.
