MFR 34: How to Find a Running Group

Last time we talked about the value of running friends for enriching your life and motivating your running; so, today, I provide ideas for how you can find a running group in your town. Doing so will provide you with motivation and entertainment while helping every other member of the running group. With the right guidance, a running group or running club will be your second family. Heck, for some people, it is the only family they have. In that sense, running clubs change lives. I’ve heard that said many times. Runners say about other people in the club, “They get me,” and so they do. Once you’ve shared a long run with someone, you’ll always be their friend.

Anymore, many running clubs struggle to retain members, and some have had to stop hosting running events because they no longer have enough manpower to do it. That doesn’t have to be the case. With proper use of social media married to a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, it is very much possible to enjoy a large and thriving running club as we have here in Tampa with Run Tampa, the club I started five years ago. At this time we have 463 members.

If you don’t find a suitable running club in your town, then my advice is to start one.
